part 1: Create Windows 10 Installation Media

Download and install Windows 10!

Traditionally, users download the ISO files of Windows 10, burn them to DVD via third-party software, then install Windows 10 from DVD. Now things get much easier, Microsoft offers a user-friendly Microsoft Media Creation Tool to assist you get the installation media-ready.

step 1: Click Here to download this tool and run it. When asked, accept Microsoft software license terms and then choose “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC” before you click Next. 


step 2: The wizard will ask you to select Language, Windows Edition and Architecture. You can accept the recommended options or make your own choice. Then click Next.


step 3: In this step, you need to choose either to create a Windows 10 install USB or to extract the ISO file (you will need to burn it to a DVD later by yourself). It’s up to you. Here take the former one for an example. Just prepare a USB drive that is large enough (at least 8GB) and click Next.


step 4: Select the removable drive from the list when asked, and make sure you’ve copied any files you want to keep off it because it will be formatted during the process of creating Windows installation media. Click Next to continue.


step 5: The tool will start downloading Windows 10 as well as any available updates to your USB drive and make it bootable, which allows you to install Windows 10 later.


step 6: When the process is successful, you’ll see a message that reads “Your USB flash drive is ready”. At this time, click Finish to exit.


part 2: Install Windows 10 on your laptop

You’ll need to insert the USB drive into the PC you want to install Windows 10 on. You then boot from the installation media. This may require modifying the boot order in your PC’s BIOS or UEFI firmware.

On the Windows Setup screen, select your language, time and currency format, and keyboard layout. Click “Next” to continue.


When you reach the installer screen, select “Install Now” and follow the instructions to install Windows 10 on your PC.

Click Install now.


You will be asked to enter the license key, do as you are required. (You can also click “I don’t have a product key” to skip and choose the Windows 10 edition you want. By ignoring, you will be required to enter the license key later.)


You will be presented with the License terms. Accept it and click on Next.


You will be asked, the type of installation you want. Do you want to upgrade your existing Windows installation and keep the files and settings, or do you want to Custom install Windows. Since we want to go in for a fresh or clean install, select Custom Install.


Next you will be asked the Partition where you want to install windows 10. Select your partition carefully and click Next. If you did not create a partition earlier, this setup wizard also lets you create one now.


Windows will then start the installation process. Mostly, the installation is automatic.


On the restart, you will see the following screen.


Windows 10 will ask you a few basic questions about your preferences, before completing the installation and taking you to the Windows 10 desktop.
